Lectures

Bring a lecture to your guild or group.

Four in-person presentations for quilt guilds, sewing groups, and community events. Each is 60 minutes, including time for questions — a mix of personal story, technique, and practical know-how, delivered with warmth, encouragement, and a good dose of humor.

From Christmas Ornament Kits to Professional Quilt Instructor

Personal Journey · 60 minutes, including Q&A

Journey with Cheryl as she describes her path from making Christmas ornament kits in college, to her first quilt on her mother's Featherweight, to creating quilt patterns, custom quilts, and teaching unique techniques. A warm, honest look at how a life in fabric comes together over decades.

See The Work · 60 minutes, including Q&A

Trunk Show

Cheryl shares the variety of quilts and other unique projects she's made and how her expertise has evolved over the years. You'll see her first quilt made for her mother, her first t-shirt quilt, her largest custom quilt at 8½ feet by 10 feet, and other one-of-a-kind pieces. She'll also share a collection of non-quilt items made over her journey as a quilter, sewer, creator, instructor, pattern designer, and pattern tester.

Technique Deep-Dive · 60 minutes, including Q&A

The Multiple Uses of a Flange

Flanges are only used within a binding … or so they say! See the unique ways Cheryl incorporates flanges to enhance a quilt. She'll describe her method for creating mirror-image blocks incorporating a flange and for integrating flanges into unique block shapes. This lecture spurs quilters into creative thinking about new techniques for their own quilts.

Cleaning Your Sewing Machine

Practical How-To · 60 minutes, including Q&A

This lecture covers the tools, supplies, and basic steps for keeping your sewing machine operating at peak performance. Cheryl demonstrates the proper use of lubricants, where to look for debris (dust, dirt, sand, threads, old lubricants), and how to get rid of it. She addresses machines that are "easy" to clean (like Featherweights) and those that really do need to go to a brand-specific certified technician.
